Wellness
and the 'Shen' - The missing link in Contemporary
medicine
aaaaa
The
alternative perspective
Eastern medicine
continues to provoke inquiry, in the awareness
of more
than just
the
physical aspects that may contribute to a
health.
Eastern medicine always has
somewhere buried in it, the respect and reverence for
the individuals Mind
or
Spirit,
and its
capacity to interact upon the total health and wellness
of the person.
The concept that your inner self may be able to
profoundly influence or support the outcomes of
health and healing is a giant leap away from scientific
inquiry. Yet whether its a major life health
crisis, or a minor habitual condition, both 'mind' and
'body' are implicated in Eastern medicinal
approaches.
In Chinese Medicine this is referred to as the 'Shen',
or 'Mind' or some use the word 'Consciousness'.
Oriental theory states that a persons health is visible
in their state of 'Shen' which is indicated
through the quality of their eyes. If a persons 'Shen'
is healthy , their eyes sparkle with vitality.
Disturbed Shen produces dull eyes, which seem to have a
veil in front of them.
It is said that 'Shen' lives in the Heart and is
nourished by the blood. 'Shen' is dependant on
the strength of the persons essence
given to
them at birth and nourished or depleted from their
choices in lifestyle, diet and activity as well as
through the nourishment received (or not) through
interactions with people in their lives and their
environment. These affect the Qi or life essence
that is further maintained via the spleen and stomach.
In Chinese Medicine, much energy is applied to the
state of the blood, the heart, the kidneys
the spleen and the stomach. Vitality and healthy living
is more than just having a body that is
able to take you from A to B, it's about the quality of
that journey and whether you make that
journey dragging your feet, or with a joyful strong
stride & inner smile.
